Charo Santos-Concio has more time in her hands to do other things, now that she’s no longer the chief executive officer and president of ABS-CBN.
During the press conference for the ABS-CBN program Maalaala Mo Kaya on Sun, May 29, Charo revealed she just finished a movie titled Ang Babaeng Humayo with director Lav Diaz.
The 60-year-old TV exec did not elaborate about her role and her co-stars, but she did say they wrapped up shooting for the movie in Mindoro in 10 days.
Lav recently released Hele sa Hiwagang Hapis, which competed in this year’s Berlin International Film Festival, under ABS-CBN’s Star Cinema last April
“When he came back from Berlin, he asked me if I would reconsider going back to acting and I said, ‘yeah, why not? If there’s a good offer, no? If it’s an interesting character’ and parang two days after the talk, he sent me a script and ‘nung binasa ko, nagustuhan ko siya,” Charo said during the press conference.
Charo was an actress before she became a top ABS-CBN executive, having starred in movies such as Mike de Leon’s Itim and Kakabakaba Ka Ba? and Lino Brocka’s Gumapang Ka Sa Lusak.
Now, Charo is more known as the host of ABS-CBN’s Saturday night program Maalaala Mo Kaya, which is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year (making it, according to the network’s press release, Asia’s longest-running drama anthology program) . She is also currently ABS-CBN’s Chief Operating Officer.
“I just go with the flow, I don’t really plan. I don’t plan anything parang whatever the universe offers me now, if my heart and my gut think it’s the right thing to do and I will have fun and I will have a great adventure then I’m open to it,” Charo said when asked if she will consider returning to acting full-time.
According to Bayani San Diego of the Philippine Daily Inquirer, Charo hopes Ang Babaeng Humayo can be part of this year’s Metro Manila Film Festival.
