Character actor Max Laurel, famous for playing Zuma, dead at 71

Character actor Max Laurel — who will forever be famous for his starring role in the film adaptation of the Filipino comic book character Zuma — passed away on Sat, Jun 11, following a heart attack. He was 71 years old.

Laurel, a former bodybuilder, did a total of two Zuma movies: Zuma (1985) and Anak ni Zuma (1987).

Zuma, a character created by Jim Fernandez in 1976, is a mutant with snakes as appendages.

Laurel may have made other movies, but he will always be remembered as the iconic Zuma, one of the most popular characters in Pinoy pop culture.

Pep.PH reports that the wake for Laurel was held at the La Funeraria Paz in Quezon City.

On Fri, Jun 17, he was set to be buried at La Loma Cemetery in Caloocan City.
