Carly Rae Jepsen, pop industry’s latest darling, performed for her Filipino fans at the Araneta Coliseum Monday night. The concert featured songs from the 80’s inspired album E•MO•TION.
Carly led the party at The Big Dome with tracks like “Run Away With Me”, “All That”, “I Really Like You”, “Gimme Love”, “Boy Problems”, and “Making the Most of the Night.” It’s only September but Carly’s E•MO•TION is already being tagged as the best pop album of 2015.
That’s because Carly was hard at work with some of the best collaborators in the music business: Sia, Devonté Hynes, Ariel Rechtshaid (Haim, Madonna, Vampire Weekend), Mattman & Robin (Tove Lo, Taylor Swift), Greg Kurstin (Charli XCX, Katy Perry), and Carl Falk and Rami Yacoub (Ariana Grande, One Direction).
“I didnt just want it to be something where my A&R guy would reach out to people and set everything up. Working with the biggest producers, its surreal… It was one of the greatest gifts of this experience,” she said.
After two and a half years of experimentations and creative soul searching (which includes a stint on Broadway), Carly released E•MO•TION.
But the 29-year-old Canadian singer and songwriter also showcased her distinctly sweet but powerful vocals, even with her older hits like the phenomenal “Call Me Maybe” and the Owl City collaboration, “Good Time”.
“As much as all the songs on E·MO·TION are personal to me, I really just want everyone to let them be their songs, their emotions. The best feeling to me is that we can all share the same stories, even if we don’t know each other,” Carly said.
