This takes guts, we have to say.
TV host and talent manager Boy Abunda led the opening of the Timog Avenue branch of GoodAh!!! in Quezon City on Wed, Oct 5.
The GoodAh!!! food chain is known for the tagline, “Open 25 hours a day.”
The Timog branch — co-owned by Boy, who also endorses the popular food chain — is just a few blocks away from ABS-CBN and situated near Tomas Morato Avenue, a popular food destination in the city.
But here’s the catch: It occupies the spot where Ozone Disco used to be.
Ozone Disco is the disco club that claimed the lives of 162 people after a fire engulfed it on Mar 18, 1996. It is considered as one of the worst nightclub fires in the world.
Despite being in a prime commercial location, the spot it occupied has been left empty since the accident . According to a Rappler report, the remains of the Ozone Disco building was demolished in 2014.
Boy said he “spoke to the spirits” before opening the GoodAh!!! branch in Timog Avenue, InterAksyon reports.
“I [believe] that we are not alone in this world, we have to pay our respects and courtesy to the departed,” he said.
He went on to say, “I prayed and said, ‘We will have our soft opening on Oct 5. Tabi-tabi po at patawad. (Excuse us and I’m sorry) I hope you will bless us and understand that we are trying to eke out an honorable living.”
He added GoodAh!!! president Tim Yang believes “people will understand.”
“I admire the brave view of our president Tim Yang. He said, number one, we had nothing to do with what happened. Number two, people will understand.”
It’s interesting to see if the branch’s location will affect their business. According to their website, GoodAh!!! has six other branches and has been around for over 30 years. The food chain serves silog meals and other popular Filipino dishes likes pares, pork sinigang, bistek, and nilaga. Their prices start at around PHP100.
So this begs the question: Are you willing to eat at the Timog Avenue branch of GoodAh!!!?
