Imagine this: the Philippines’ King of Talk holding a political position in the future.
Well, not in the near 2106-future, thank god. In an interview with the press, Kapamilya talk show host Boy Abunda is aiming for a government post four years from now.
“[In 2019], I might seek an executive position like a gubernatorial seat for Eastern Samar,” Tito Boy told The Manila Bulletin.
Boy, whose real name is Eugenio, was born in Borongan City, Eastern Samar.
A renowned publicist and talent manager for top celebrities, Boy believes he can handle an executive role better than a legislative post.
“I don’t find legislative work in Congress and the Senate seductive. I’m interested in a cabinet or executive position [in government], something within my core competency,” pep.ph quotes him as saying.
But why not 2016?
“It’s too soon now. I’m not ready as yet and I have shows and contracts to fulfill. Besides, I have to take care of Nanay,” he added.
As early as 2014, Boy had retreated from running for public office saying his mom needed his attention more. At that time, he also said he wanted to summon more courage to deal with criticisms.
“Parang am I willing to give up my more than 20 years in this business for a career na babatikusin lang ako kahit napakaganda ng aking intensyon?…It takes a lot of courage, totoo. Yun ang pagkatao, para hindi ka malamon,¨ Boy said in an interview with pep.ph.
But, as it turns out, politics is not an unusual path for Boy or any of the Abundas of Eastern Samar.
“My sister is the mayor, my nanay is in politics, my father is in politics. So it is not surprising that the people in our area talk to me about politics kasi nasa pamilya namin. One of the brothers of my father was also a mayor, yung ganoon, my cousins are into politics,” he noted.
While he’s not seeking a position in 2016, Boy promises to take the coming elections seriously and to stay updated on issues so he won’t be disappointed with the person he will support.
