We’ve got a lot of bibliophiles in this town, so there’s a fair bit of buzz going around for the upcoming 39th Manila International Book Fair (MIBF) that’s happening next week (from September 12 to 16) at the SMX Convention Center in Pasay City.

Doors open at 8am and close at 10pm — so be sure to plan your visit/shopping spree accordingly.

Tickets are priced at PHP35 (US$0.65), but if you’re pinching pennies, then here’s a little tip: Summit Books posted a free pass on their Facebook account that their fellow book hoarders can use. Pretty cool of them to do that.

Visitors with kids can check out the venue’s second floor, where all the children’s books will be sold. It’s a great place to snag those hard-to-find kids’ titles you’ve been looking for.

One of the event’s highlights includes National Bookstores’ Book Binge Bazaar, running from September 14 to 16, when books could sell for as low as PHP75 (US$1.39) each. National Book Store will also be bringing actor and poet Nico Tortorella on September 16 to talk about his new book, All of It Is You.

Then there’s also a book signing to be held on Sept. 16 by Precious Hearts Romances (PHR), one of the top publishers of Tagalog romance books in the country. PHR didn’t disclose the writers who will be at the signing, but it’s a good opportunity for romance novel fanatics to see their faves face-to-face. Potentially, anyway.

Other than those companies mentioned, expect to also see titles from big-name publishers such as Adarna House, which is known for its children’s literature; Anvil Publishing, which has an extensive catalogue of adult-oriented fiction; Visprint, which sells books from top personalities such as comic book writer Manix Abrera and Bob Ong; and Rex Book Store, which sells quite a ton of academic books used by elementary and high school students.
