In every beauty pageant, everyone’s favorite is the question and answer portion to see how stupid or nervous or both some of the candidates are. After all, we need to feel that the gods are fair, right?
Here are our favorite bits from last night’s Bb. Pilipinas 2014 competition.
BEST QUESTION
Question: Melanie Marquez asked Bb. 3 Joanna Romero what else we need apart from love. Of course she had to quote the song (which she referred to as a saying, too), but got confused as to who really needs it (all you need, all we need).
Answer: In case you’re interested, Joanna’s answer was, “Aside from love, all we need is beauty… not about physical appearance alone. It is about what is inside of you, how you share, how you inspire other people.”
BEST BEAUTY PAGEANT ANSWER
Mary Jean Lastimosa’s answer to Miss Universe Gabriela Isler’s question (March is Women’s Month. for you, what is the greatest advantage of being a woman?): “The greatest advantage of being a woman is being able to compose herself. Just like here, we’re standing in front of thousands of people not knowing whether you’re going to cheer for us or boo us. But we try to compose ourselves. We keep the emotions and show the beauty that is in us, and tonight thousands of people are standing here, celebrating the beauty of women.”
BEST DEAD AIR ANSWER
Zahara Mae Soriano was asked, “If you were given the chance to talk before an international audience, what will you tell them about Filipino heroism?” She swallowed and then fell silent, and then answered, “As a Filipino, I am proud to be Filipino…” She was seen explaining to Anne Curtis, who in turn seemed like she was also explaining the question to the poor candidate. Host Xian Lim asked her if she wanted the judge to repeat the question, and when he did, she answered, “I can say that we have a modern hero who is OFW who sacrifice their life, their family to go abroad and work for their family. So that’s the only thing that I wanna say to a foreigner or to a visitor from international.”
BEST PERSONAL ANSWER
Kris Tiffany Janson was asked what she would change if she could go back in time, and she said, “I would go to my father and tell him how much I love him because I know that it was something I took for granted. But tonight I do not worry because I know he has the best seat and he is watching from above. And tonight I am a step closer from achieving his dream.” The answer made Anne Curtis tear up, and she just had to announce this to everyone.
TRICKIEST QUESTION
Sen. Sonny Angara asked Pia Wurtzbach in Tagalog (Anong pinakamagandang leksyon na maituturo ng isang babae sa buong mundo?), and Pia, of course, just had to answer in tagalong. She said, “Ang isang leksyon na maitutro ng isang babae sa mundo ay yung tiwala sa kanyang sarili, yung intuition po na tinatawag natin. Pag meron ka pong intuition alam mo pos a sarili mo kung saan mo ilulugar yung sarili mo sa mundo kahit na hindi ka sigurado sa nararamdaman mo o sa naiisip mo pero kung alam mo sa intuition mo then magiging successful ka sa kahit anong gawin mo sa buhay mo.” She had the bright idea of translating it in English for the foreigner judges, but didn’t have time to translate her answer fully. She just said that “it’s intuition, it’s very important.”
BEST OMG ANSWER
Precious Lara-Quigaman asked Kenneth Santiago for the number one thing she’d sacrifice for the crown. Before answering, she paused, in deep rumination, looking down as if grasping for a very poignant answer. And then she said, “I think one thing that I would sacrifice for a Binibini crown is my shoes. You know it’s very hard for me to find it because I have this very big shoe size but for Binibini I would sacrifice this precious thing that I have just to have the crown.”
