BBC runs another AlDub special!

Seems like the British Broadcasting Corporation can’t get enough of AlDub.

On Tue, Dec 8, the BBC ran another special on the phenomenal love team, this time with Filipino anchor Rico Hizon on the set of Eat Bulaga!

In the 58-second video preview that BBC uploaded on its Facebook page, Hizon asked AlDub if they are both in love. Alden played the showbiz card, brought out his dimples, and tried to charm the host: “It’s for the people to find out very soon.”

Operative word: Tried. Either the cut was bad or Hizon did not expect such a showbiz answer.

He prodded, “Is this all just an act for your sponsors?” Maine answered: “Whatever we have, we’re just enjoying it.”

Finally, Hizon asked the big question: Are you both open to falling in love? “We’re not closing any doors,” Alden began.

“Because we are both single anyway,” Maine finished.

A longer video accompanies the lengthy report that the BBC ran on its website, which is again an exercise in understanding what makes the love team click.

“Since being featured in the show, the previously unknown couple have pulled in an average of 8.6 million viewers every day — a record rating for a Philippine lunch time television show,” Hizon wrote.

Apart from Maine and Alden, Hizon also interviewed advertising executives, researchers, and Eat Bulaga! producers to shed light on the phenomenon.

Tape production’s Jenny Ferre, who is the “creator” of AlDub, admits that Eat Bulaga! was having problems attracting young viewers before AlDub came along.

“TV is like Dracula, social media is the blood. You just have to suck it out and give TV that strength,” she told BBC.
