Back in 2001, the artist formerly known as Rustom Padilla wanted to commit suicide. This was back when he was still in the closet. In an interview with Jojo Gabinete of Pep.ph, BB Gandanghari revealed that “magpapakamatay na ako noon.”
He shared, “Andun na ako sa point na suicidal na ako kasi galit nag alit na ako sa mundo. Naku, parang gusto ko na lang ilaglag ang kotse ko sa isang cliff! I was in the US at that time.”
BB added that he was also very in love with someone at that time but that he had to cut it off.
After being heartbroken, he went to the US and got himself a girlfriend. That was when he realized he was so mad at the whole world.
He first came out to God, and then to himself, which was in 2004, a year before he flew back to the Philippines.
“If I continue denying what’s going on inside, I will die unhappy, alone. And then parang I saw myself on my deathbed. And then sabi ko, ayoko atang umabot sa punto na pointing fingers ako na ‘Ikaw kasi, ikaw kasi…’”
And that’s exactly how we now have BB Gandanghari, ladies and gentlemen.
