It’s almost like NU shutting down all over again. After a 31-year-run, the legendary Tracks Recording Studio in Pasig, has just closed shop, and our beloved musicians are feeling the loss.
“The business is not there anymore,” Mike Pedero, owner of Tracks, tells Coconuts Manila over email. “The revenues are not commensurate to the expenses, operationals are not getting bigger. We hope to finish our last project by Oct 31.” It’s almost heartbreaking when something as big and influential as Tracks succumbs to the hard reality of commerce. It’s sad when reality bites, really.
As you may or may not know, Tracks is the holy grail of recording studios in Metro Manila. It is where a lot of OPM history was made. It was where the sound of the 90s and the early 00s was pretty much harnessed and built. Witness exhibit A: The Eraserheads recorded their best-selling albums here.

The general public may not be aware of the amount of influence Tracks has in their lives but it’s there. Tracks together with its main sound engineer, Angee Rozul and owner Mike Pedero, have become something of a Pinoy Rock icon. Cheers, Tracks! We hope to see you in another form sooner or later!
On Tuesday night, musicians who call Tracks home gathered and recorded for the very last time. If our instincts are correct, we should all be able to watch it on music site RadioRepublic soon. We cannot wait to get our hearts broken yet again.
