It was its chance to show its capability to move forward, but the Catholic Church chooses to put and stand firm.

“In the wake of the US Supreme Court’s decision legalizing gay marriage, the Catholic Church will maintain its teachings on marriage, the head of the Catholic Bishop’s Conference of the Philippines said Saturday,” reports Joel Locsin on GMA Network.com.

But, Bishop Socrates Villegas clarifies on Facebook, “all will continue to find welcome in the Church, while, under command from the Lord himself, will continue to teach what the Church has unceasingly taught.”

In not so many words that means: marriage is still just between men and women but hey, the LGBT community is free to attend mass and be Catholic.

The GMA network report quotes LGBT partylist chair Danton Remoto’s statement about how the US Supreme Court decision “touches the very heart of same-sex relationships: that now you can marry and live with the one you love, your union protected by the legal mantle of the state.”

“Malacañang said it will be up to Congress to determine if there is a need to change the necessary laws to legalize gay marriage,” notes the report.

ON THE US SUPREME COURT DECISION ON SAME SEX MARRIAGE”The Church continues to maintain what it has always taught….
