Times, they are a-changing. Gone are the days when the Ateneo High School was an all-boys zone.
Ateneo de Manila Senior High School (ASHS) recently held a three-day orientation for its incoming batch of students including, for the first time, girls.
According to a statement released by Ateneo earlier this year, 246 female applicants were accepted into their senior high school program.
“The co-ed nature of the Senior High School is part of preparation for college,” said the University President, Fr. Jose Ramon Villarin.
In 2015, the school first announced that it would be accepting 300 new students, both boys and girls for school year 2016-2017.
The Ateneo Grade School and the Junior High School will remain exclusive for boys.
This change is in line with the school’s shift to the K to 12 program, formally known as the Enhanced Basic Education Act of 2013.
