If you’re a theater-lover (or even if you’re not but you want to support the local theater industry), then get ready for “Collection.” Presented by Dulaang UP, it is a dark comedy that paints a disturbing picture of society obsessed with consumption, surface glamor, and the endless pursuit of The Next Big Thing.
Written by acclaimed playwright Floy Quintos and directed by Dexter Martinez Santos, “Collection” has an interesting plot: a 16th century ivory image gets discovered and is auctioned off to several collectors, such as an international jeweler, a beauty magnate and a creative genius. In the end, the auction pits not only the wealthy bidders against each other, but against the mass of Filipinos all wanting their share in the sale. But will it push through? Will one buyer own the image? You’ll have to catch the play.
