Laurice Guillen of Cinemalaya confirmed yesterday, Nov. 13, that veteran director/writer Mel Chionglo is replacing film producer Robbie Tan as head of the Monitoring Committee for the 2013 Cinemalaya Independent Film Festival. Tan, who held the position for eight years, recently gave up his post after online protests.
According to Inquirer Entertainment, Chionglo was appointed as a member of the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board’s Appeals Committee by President Benigno Aquino III last year. He is popular for his mostly gay-themed movies, like “Sibak: Midnight Dancer” and “Burlesk King.”
