Is Kakai Bautista the new girlfriend of Mario Maurer?

A lot of people from the Philippines — girls and gay guys — go bonkers over Thai cutie Mario Maurer. It all began when his film “The Love of Siam” reached our shores. That got people intrigued and hooked; Pinoys clearly couldn’t get enough of Mario. So imagine the excitement when clothing brand Penshoppe announced they were bringing over the Thai heartthrob to represent them. That was pretty huge. Apparently, his fan base in the country is so huge that he ended up doing a local film entitled “Suddenly It’s Magic” together with actress Erich Gonzales. The movie, of course, proved to be a big hit in the box office.

The Thai’s ties with the Philippines hasn’t ended. Mario is trending among Pinoys once again because he is being linked with a Filipina. Having recently parted ways with Gubgib, his girlfriend of almost a decade, Mario is now a single guy but the buzz is that he’s playing sweet music with a Filipina named Kakai Bautista. They even have a couple of photos together online, fanning the flames.

The really interesting part is that the two make an unlikely pair, looks-wise. Mario is cute (duh) while Kakai isn’t exactly supermodel or beauty queen material. Kakai, who is a singer and a comedienne who has worked with Mario in “Suddenly It’s Magic,” has rabbit teeth and gums that are a little too exposed.

People online, jealous Mario fans to be specific, aren’t as nice as I am.

Clearly against this “partnership,” the fans have been posting hate comments about Kakai, some of them attacking her looks, of course.

“Ilusyunada,” commented one.

“Mahilig sa chaka si Mario,” said another.

While it’s not impossible for someone like Mario to fall for someone like Kakai, most people are not convinced about this “partnership,” whatever it is. Some people are even claiming that it’s to promote some upcoming project.

Well, if they truly are a couple, then props to Mario for being so evolved that traditional good looks are not a requirement for a girlfriend for him.

What do you think about this “partnership”?

The more important question: What do we call this love team? Kakario? Marakai?
