Demi Lovato talks about style, being bullied, and her new album – hours before her first concert in Manila

Singer, actress, and “The X Factor” judge Demi Lovato is in the Philippines for a one-nightly-only concert today, March 20, later at the Smart Araneta Coliseum. And before getting ready for the concert, she faced members of the local press at the Gateway Suites in Araneta and answered some questions.

Demi talked about her latest hit, “Heart Attack,” which she said is the opposite of her other song called “Give Your Heart a Break.” She said the song is “the conflict of wondering if it’s worth the risk to fall in love and getting your heart broken or not doing it at all.”

“Heart Attack” is the lead single of her upcoming album, which she says basically sounds pop but also has influences from other genres of music. In this new record, she shared that she has a favorite song entitled “Warrior,” which means a lot to her. “I put a lot of my personal experiences in that song and my heart is really near and dear to it and it will be in this new album and I’m opening up a lot on it and that’s the most meaningful [song] to me.”

Demi gave some very inspiring answers during the press con.

Asked about her definition of a winner, she said it’s someone who is positive especially during the trying times. Demi also shared that her mantra now is just “trying to live everyday like it’s your last, trying to get the best out of everything.”

Her advice for those who want to follow in her footsteps? “Work as hard as you can” and “Practice makes perfect.”

Demi also inspired a lot by sharing what she thinks about bullying. “When I grew up I was bullied and I actually left public school because of it. And it scarred me really bad. And since I’ve been able to speak about issues that are close to my heart and I have the opportunity to do so I’ve spoken about bullying. I try to speak out as much as I can to young people about how bullying is not okay. And if you’re being bullied, to get help, and to reach out to somebody if they’re being bullied.”
