Who needs expensive art materials when you’re overflowing with talent?
Pampanga artist Erwin Dayrit shared photos of his latest work featuring famous tattoo artist Apo Whang-Od from Kalinga.
Interestingly, Dayrit just used Dong-A ballpoint pens, which can be easily bought in bookstores in Metro Manila for less that PHP50. He managed to make the portrait look extremely realistic in spite of using simple materials. It’s amazing how he was able to achieve the right color and texture.
The 37-year-old has been creating great works of art even if he was born with Osteogenesis Imperfecta (OI), which means his bones break easily.
He also drawn boxing icon Manny Pacquaio, and basketball legend Michael Jordan.
What made the Apo Whang-Od portait even more special? Dayrit delivered it himself!
Thanks to the GMA show Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho, Erwin reached the high mountains of Kalinga to personally deliver his work. Can you even imagine how dangerous the trek was for him?
Apo Whang-Od tearfully received Erwin’s gift. It’s such a nice thing to see two artists bonding, yes?
