The country’s official summer food, halo-halo, has a new fan: celebrity chef, author and tv personality Anthony Bourdain.
Although he is no stranger to Filipino cuisine, it was Bourdain’s first time to taste offerings from Pinoy fastfood Jollibee. In his new show called “Anthony Bourdain Parts Unknown,” which aired on CNN on Sunday, he was shown driving around Koreatown with a local. After sampling Korean food, they went to a Jollibee drive through and ordered the Aloha Burger, spam sliders (which we don’t have in the Philippines, unfortunately) and a large serving of Halo-halo with the works!
The CNN clip described Halo-halo as a dessert consisting of red beans, white beans, Jell-O, chick peas, coconut, shaved ice and flan. It was love at first spoonful for Bourdain. “It makes no goddamn sense at all. I love it,” the celebrity said of the halo-halo, which he also said was “oddly beautiful.”
Bourdain even took a photo of the halo-halo and posted it on his Twitter account.
