By the end of the AlDub’s date on Saturday, the designated hashtag for the event, #AlDubMostAwaitedDate, got over 9 million tweets.
But get this: even before Alden and Maine could even lay their eyes on each other, Manila Bulletin points out that the aforementioned hash had already beat the record previously set by #LoveWins. That was at 6.2 million in 24 hours.
Because who wouldn’t want to join the fun? For months now, everybody has been rooting for AlDub. The accidental couple has been making us kilig despite famously not having met each other irl ever.
Last Thursday, Lola Nidora, the token MH to the accidental love team, finally gave her blessing for a date.
Eat Bulaga! beautifully set up the occasion. Lola Nidora and her sisters, Lola Tidora and Lola Tinidora, first gave Yaya Dub cute pieces of advice on things like how to sneeze, how to chew, and how to be lady.
By the time Yaya Dub left for the date, aboard a cool two-door Volkswagen, the hashtag has hit the 8 million mark.
Of course, it wasn’t going to be easy. Lola Nidora subjected the couple to an obstacle course of 10 stations. For every station, there is a question that they need to answer. For every matching answer, they move to the next station until viola. They finally meet.
On the first four questions, the couple easily answered correctly.
Tension started to arise on the fifth round, when they missed the question: Sweet or spicy? Maine answered spicy, while Alden picked sweet.
They answered correctly on the sixth, but again missed the seventh.
After Alden and Yaya Dub both choose Pilipinas in the eighth round, the two moved within each other’s view. The world erupted.
When they got the last question correctly, Alden moved closer, flashing his cute be-dimpled smile, while Maine self-consciously hid behind the roses that were sent by Alden on several stations.
It was a short date. While feasting on wine — or was that coke in a goblet? — and isaw, the two were seen trying to talk to each other out of character, like real people meeting for the first time. But they also quickly get back into character, hamming it up for the camera, when suddenly Yaya Dub’s alarm rang. It was time for Lola Nidora’s medication.
Like the diligent girl, she leaves her date, rides the beetle, and heads back to Lola.
And then the sound of a crash. Did Yaya Dub get into an accident? What?!
