Alden Richards: ‘Maine Mendoza and I never thought we’d come this far’

“Hindi, wala na. Pagod na pagod na ako,” Alden Richards quipped when asked if he still has time for himself. (“I no longer have time for myself. I am exhausted.”)

On Tue, Jun 22 the actor held a press conference for TechnoMarine watch, for which he has been named brand ambassador.

Alden’s schedule has been jam-packed recently. He has just finished production for his movie with Maine Mendoza, titled Imagine You and Me, slated for a July release. He’ll be very busy promoting it in the coming weeks. Then there’s his daily duties for GMA shows Eat Bulaga and Sunday PinaSaya.

Alden, 24, revealed during the press conference that he has a book coming out, also this July.

July also marks the first anniversary of AlDub, his love team wih Maine that began on Eat Bulaga.

“Napakasaya ko kasi 2015 (was) really, really, really great. Kumbaga, sobrang blessed po ako with everything that’s been happening,” Alden told members of the press, which included Coconuts Manila (watch our Facebook Live feed here).

(I’m very happy because 2015 was really, really, really, really great. I’m very blessed with everything that’s been happening.)

He added, “July is a big month.”

He’s especially excited to celebrate the anniversary of AlDub with Maine. The actor can’t believe that AlDub has been around for a year.

“Minsan naiisip namin ni Maine, like kahapon, nasa TVC shoot kami, parang ang bilis ng mga pangyayari, we never thought na aabot kami ng isang taon with this. Sobrang happy lang.

(Maine and I would sometimes think, like yesterday during a commercial shoot, things happened so fast, we never thought we’d come this far with this. We’re very happy.)

Of course, Alden admits he and Maine have received their “fair share of criticisms” and comments — some good, some bad, some “very bad.”

“But at the end of the day kasi, it’s what we believe in, e — kung ano ang pagkakaintindihan namin ni Maine and kung ano ang meron kaming dalawa. That’s what important,” he said.

(But at the end of the day, it’s what Maine and I believe in — our understanding with each other and what the two of us have. That’s what important.)

With everything that’s been happening in his life and showbiz career, Alden said he is still aiming to have time for himself and the special people in his life (yes, Maine included).

“Maganda kasi ang time if you’re willing to share… If you care for someone, you give them time. Also you give time for yourself,” he said. “If you don’t have time for yoursel, how can you have time for other people?”
