Somehow, it’s 2019, and there are still people who don’t seem to acknowledge the universal truth about garbage: It’s never OK to litter. Trash should be disposed of properly. Duh.

But, as actress Nadine Lustre learned, some Filipinos still need to be educated about the importance of not littering.

The actress posted an Instagram story yesterday, in which she wrote about a RoRo driver who tried to dispose of his trash by throwing it out of his van. Lustre said that she then picked up the garbage and told him to throw it away where it belongs: in the bin.

At the time she posted her IG story, Lustre was on a RoRo ship. RoRo ships are designed to carry land vehicles at sea. Popularly used in the country, vehicles can be driven into and out of the ships.

Lustre wrote in her post: “On a RoRo atm (at the moment) and I caught someone throw paper and plastic wrappers out of their van’s window. I picked it up, knocked on the door and asked the driver to throw it properly in a trash can. I don’t think I can forgive myself if I just stood still and let the trash go into the ocean.”

She told her followers to do their part in saving the environment, as she said that the harmful actions we take against the natural world will return to hurt us right back, in the long run.

She said: “We are part of everything. Everything that we do to harm the Earth will, eventually, come back to us maybe not now but in the future.  The universe has been good to us….We are all so lucky to have a home that has everything we need. Let’s be grateful and start taking care of it. Please, please, please let’s all work together. We can do this! All we need is a little bit of responsibility and a whole lot of LOVE.”

We couldn’t agree more.
