Regine Velasquez may be the country’s best singer (this is a fact – deal with it) but she proves that she’s humble enough to share the spotlight with others. Enjoyed her surprise duet with Alicia Keys during the international singer’s concert last Monday? Here are some more awesome Regine “duets.”
1. Regine Velasquez and Ronan Keating
It was a little scary when the Songbird first sang because it sounded like the songs was a little too high for her. Then again, nothing is too high for our Songbird! Not the kind of song that Regine would really sing, but she did a good job singing it with the former member of Boyzone – and not making sapaw.
2. Regine Velasquez and Brian McKnight
During his Two for the Knight concert in Araneta, Brian sang the song “Whenever You Call” with Ate Reg. Mariah Carey is the original ka-duet of Brian in the song, and in all fairness, Regine did a great job singing Mimi’s parts. Ate Reg, after all, is our answer to Mariah, right? 😉
3. Regine Velasquez and Jacky Cheung
Two Asian superstars, one awesome song.
4. Regine Velasquez and Gelli de Belen
OMG, a Gelli and Regine duet? Yes! As in Gelli-the-wife-of-Ariel-Rivera and Regine-ex-of-Ariel-Rivera duet! Which leads us to…
5. Regine Velasquez and Ariel Rivera
Very kilig-inducing this “duet” of Ate Reg and ex-boyfriend Ariel Rivera (we use quotation marks because it’s really a Regine solo, although Ariel does back-up vocals in the last part). What makes this performance of “Minsan Lang Kita Iibigin” really amazing is how emotional and raw and sincere and felt-na-felt Regine did it. Goosebumps.
6. Regine Velasquez and 98 Degrees
Despite the poor quality of the video, there is no denying how Regine blew away each and every member of 98 Degrees – Nick Lachey and… the others – when she sang the stanzas of the boyband’s song “The Hardest Thing,” Songbird-style.
7. Regine Velasquez and Arnel Pineda
We didn’t even know this existed! A LONG time ago, the Songbird and the Journey lead vocalist performed the Heart hit “Without You.” Don’t you just love the ‘80s?
8. Regine Velasquez and Mandy Moore
People criticized Regine for stealing the spotlight from Mandy Moore when they sang Mandy’s hit song “Cry,” but, really, Regine was not even trying! In all fairness, that’s not even how Regine performs when she PERFORMS. She was pretty tame and very considerate pa nun ha.
