Teeth is arguably the most influential and most underrated band of the 90s. They probably won’t dominate a discussion about the Eheads-dominated era, but the 5-man band will certainly hold its own chapter of the story.
They are celebrating their 20th anniversary by playing a one-night only reunion gig tonight—TONIGHT!—at the Metrotent in Pasig, and social media is abuzzed with Teeth-this and Teeth-that. Can’t say we’re surprised but suddenly, we were barking with Teeth-related information, memory, reference, what have you. See below:
We couldn’t help but start listing the many ways we’ve been affected by the band. Turning senti in 3,2,1:
1. A lot of the music scene right now. Teeth members populate a lot of today’s super popular bands: “Sandwich,” “Pedicab,” “Pupil” “Daydream Cycle.”
2. The movie “Rakenrol.” Quark Henares’ ode to the local Pinoy music scene, is about two bestfriends Odie and Irene who form a band. Odie says somewhere in the beginning of the movie that Teeth’s “’Shooting Star’ ang unang rock song na minahal ko nang todo-todo.” The song won the NU “Song of the Year” award in 2000, Teeth’s second time to win the same award.
3. Some of Daniel Padilla’s singing career. “Jacinto recalls on a humorous incident that happened while he was touring in Canada with Dong Abay and The Youth,” narrates Jill Tan Radovan on Inquirer.net. “Right after his set, a teenage girl approaches him and says ,’Sir, thanks for playing my favorite Daniel Padilla song!’ The girl’s uncle corrects her immediately by saying, ‘no, no, he’s the original singer!”
4. You can’t say “nagsimula sa patikim-tikim” without singing a tune! The song was actually named “Song of the Year “ in the 1995 NU Rock Awards.

5. Someone dedicated this to you, or you did. Or at least know someone who did, or to whom it was dedicated.

Teeth performs tonight, 8pm at the Metrotent, Metrowalk, Ortigas, Pasig. Tickets start at PHP650
