5 stage mothers we love

Mother’s Day is just around the corner so in honor of moms, we give your five of our favorite ones – those who have given us… artistas!

Mommy Caring

We love the mother of Aiza Seguerra because she knows how valuable education is, forcing Aiza to finish school even if she was busy with showbiz. She also spotted promise in her daughter when it comes to PR and music, so she made Aiza start school at 1 ½ years old. Best of all, she’s accepted Aiza as a lesbian and has even been supportive of her daughter’s relationships. (Photo: jobonsol.net)

Mommy Divine

The mother of Sarah Geronimo is seen as pakialamera or a little too controlling by some people in the industry, especially when it comes to the love life of the Popstar Princess. But this is exactly why we love her! Imagine: if Mommy Divine wasn’t as strict as she is, Sarah could have taken the slutty route and gotten prggers, with all the admirers she has. That means the end of her career. And you certainly don’t want that, right, Popsters? (Photo: sarahgeronimo.ph)

Ligaya Salonga

We remember all these stories about how Mommy Ligaya was ALWAYS with Lea – as in every audition, every performance, every lesson. And that it stopped only when she got married. Now that’s one dedicated, supportive, and committed stage mother there. And we’re grateful she was that tutok. Just look at all the things that Lea has accomplished. Lea also shared with Us Asians that her mom aggressively peddled her first single back when people thought children’s records wouldn’t sell. And, of course, she championed education. “It was something that no one could take away from me, and would definitely shape the way I look at things,” she said. “I also learned from them that intelligence wasn’t everything; preparation and perseverance were also important qualities to have in order to make it in this world.” (Photo: stolen from Chuvaness and then cropped)

Dionisia Pacquiao

We love Mommy D because she is not just a supportive mother who prays the rosary before her son Manny’s fights (and even “hexes” his opponents) and holds victory parties for him, she is also a very entertaining (and skilled!) dancer and singer. Apart from busting out ballroom dance moves and hot Beyonce steps, she can also sing a storm. “Riking Bull,” anyone? And oh, Mommy D has been trying to convince her son to retire, for health reasons (among other things) – despite all the money and Hermes bags his successful boxing career could bring. Now that’s a concerned mom.

Annabelle Rama

We love this Bisaya’s fearlessness and feistiness, especially when defending her kids – Ruffa, Rocky, Elvis, Richard and Raymond. She’s had verbal wars with people like TV host/manager Lolit Solis, former GMA exec Wilma Galvante, actor John Lloyd Cruz (who seemed like he didn’t want to acknowledge his relationship with Ruffa), among many others. We’re also big fans of her quotable quotes, like “Nananawagan ako sa taong bayan na wag iboto si Noynoy (Aquino) kasi hindi pa nga nananalo si Noynoy eh ang yabang-yabang na ni Kris. Akala mo siya ang may ari ng showbiz,” and the fact that she is a very entertaining person to follow on Twitter.
