5 fun ways the class of 2015 can celebrate graduation in Metro Manila

Got a tip? Send it to us at manila@coconuts.co.

The Pasig River ferry is giving graduating students a 50% discount starting March 15 until their graduation day. In the coming days, more restaurants, bars, and hotels will be doling out their own graduation promos, for sure — and we love it! So to add to all that jazz, we’ve whipped out 5 fun and unusual ideas for the class of 2015 to celebrate and enjoy their freedom. Cheers, you guys! You made it! Welcome to the real world. It’s hard, you’ll love it.

1. Go on a field trip with your significant other

That Pasig Ferry discount? Use it, and go to Intramuros. Make sure you get there by 5pm the latest. And then head out to The Bayleaf hotel, go straight to the Sky Deck, avail of its happy hour promo — PHP550 for unlimited beer and tapas — and cheers to forever as you watch the sun go down. Happy hour is from 5:30pm-9pm. Feeling extra galante? Swing by Friday or Saturday and have its dinner buffet. It’s only PHP780 all-in from 6pm-10:30pm. Rooftop, The Bayleaf Hotel, Muralla cor Victoria Streets, Intramuros. +63 2 3185000

2. Have a staycation with the barkada

Book a hostel dorm room for a weekend walwalan. At MNL Hostel, they have dorm rooms for up to 8 people. They also have these tagay sessions right outside their doorstep for their guests. Once you’ve all cozied up, why not explore Poblacion with your new friends! A tequila bar, a midget boxing arena, and even a posh rooftop bar call this neighborhood, home. It’s almost like having a house party, a club party and a sleepover — all in one weekend. It’s cheap, it’s fun, and meeting these travelers — at a hostel, it will be hard not to — is your ticket to the wild, open world. MNL Hostel, Valdez Street cor Santiago Streets, Poblacion, Makati. +63 2 5117514

3. Throw an unusual class party

Unless you have a mansion, you’ll probably have a hard time accommodating a class of, say, 35. So allow us to suggest: why not book Victoria Court’s Oval Office theme room? It can accommodate up to a class for 35, the venue will give it another angle of fun, and they have party packages available. Extra bonus:  you don’t have to clean after. PHP12,000 gets you 5 hours of pure unadulterated fun. Victoria Court, 1 Victoria Drive, Canley Road, Pasig. +63 2 6712317

4. Feast with your family

No better way to celebrate than with food and with family. Viking’s prides itself for being the largest and most affordable buffet in Metro Manila. From its original SM Mall of Asia location, Viking’s has spread across the city far and wide — and into different concepts, too, like the Luxury Buffet in SM Mega Fashion Hall and Viking’s Niu in SM Aura. A tip: Lunch prices are different from dinner prices, and weekends from weekdays. That said, try to come early because Viking’s is also known for a terribly long wait time! Viking’s Luxury Buffet, 4/F SM Mega Fashion Hall, Mandaluyong, 11am-2:30pm, 5:30-10:30pm. +63 2 6563888, +63 2 6564888, +63 2 6565888

5. Sing karaoke with strangers

Most karaoke joints in Metro Manila offer private rooms, sure. But it’s your graduation day — why not go all out? Karaoke Republic in Quezon City offers private rooms too, plus a chance to sing around strangers in its lobby. Don’t worry, you won’t be going out of your comfort zones too much: There are only 5 tables in the lobby, so you’re still somewhat safe. 8pm-2am, Kareoke Republic, 35 Timog Ave, Quezon City. PHP130/head
