2 Truths and 1 Lie: Transformers Age of Extinction + Begin Again + Blended

Guess what? This week, the only thing you’ll ever get to watch in cinemas are a bunch of huge robots—and then some. We’re not complaining! Metro Manila theaters will be dominated by Optimus Prime and his army of vehicles-or-not Autobots. Then at the end of the week, we hear Ayala cinemas and a bunch of others will be opening the musical rom-com Begin Again that will probably leave us remembering Music and Lyrics or every Barrymore-Sandler movie ever made (just kidding!).

Not sure which of these movies to watch? Don’t worry. Here are three movie facts—that might or might not be true—to help you decide. Two of these movie factoids are true and one of these is NOT. What’s your guess? Let us know by tweeting us or commenting below!

TRANSFORMERS: AGE OF EXTINCTION
Dir: Michael Bay (2014). Mark Whalberg, Nicola Peltz, Jack Reynor, Stanley Tucci. MTRCB G.

Mark Wahlberg’s three children—Ella Rae, Michael Robert and Brendan Joseph—are definitely doing a cameo as scared onlookers. Of course they are not really actors, just kids with a really cool dad. Marky Mark reportedly asked director-friend Michael Bay to include the kids in the film because they were big Transformers fans! See, what did we tell you about this dad being super cool?

Mark Wahlberg plays Cade Yeager, a mechanic who picks up Optimus Prime four years after the events in Dark of the Moon. The government and a couple of bad businessmen (possibly looking for scrap) then turns to them and tries to take Optimus Prime away, which creates chaos that we would all understand after we watch the movie.

TRUTH OR LIE: At 144 minutes, Transformers 4 is the shortest Transformers movie ever made. The longest Transformers movie ever made is the first-ever Transformers (2007) running at 165 mins. Dark of the Moon (2011) runs for 154 mins, while Revenge of the Fallen (2009) clocks in at 150 mins. Also, technically, Transformers 4 may be the fourth from Paramount Pictures franchise, but it’s really the fifth Transformers movie ever made.

BEGIN AGAIN
Dir: John Carney (2013). Keira Knightley, Mark Ruffalo, Adam Levine. MTRCB PG. Opens June 27.

TRUTH OR LIE: The film won an award in China and it might get a Chinese release or a Chinese version now that screenwriter and director John Carney sold the Chinese theatrical and “all platform rights” to his movie. This musical rom-com, which premiered in the 2013 Toronto Film Festival, also won Best Achievement in Music at the Shanghai International Film Festival recently.

It stars Marvel’s Dr. Banner, Mark Ruffalo, as Dan, an ex-record label executive who discovers Keira Knightley’s character Gretta, who is the ex-girlfriend of upcoming singer Dave, played by no other than Maroon 5’s Adam Levine. We’re mostly excited to see what Adam looks like in scraggly beard.

ANSWERS TO LAST WEEK’S 2 TRUTHS AND A LIE
TRUTH: #1 and #2! Yes, kids and kids-at-heart. You’ve got to watch out for How to Train Your Dragon 3 as it has been confirmed that the story is a trilogy. Director Dean Deblois said he’ll only do the sequel if there’s a part 3 to so yay! for us moviegoers, right?

Also, If you have seen 22 Jump Street you’ll know that the second item is indeed true. People like Seth Rogen (which seems to always pop up in Jonah Hill movies), Bill Hader, Anna Faris and DJ Diplo did make it in the movie with cameo roles. Did you spot all the pop culture and movie references?

LIE: #3. While the character names and their brief descriptions were true, The Third Person did not center in 3 people with one whole complicated timeline. The characters do cross roads at some point in the film but they lived three separate lives in three different locations with other cast and characters that make up three different stories interspersed with each other. It’s a really complicated film but simple in some way, just go watch, as it is still showing this week!
