Forget about Regine Velasquez or the APO Hiking Society or even Yoyoy Villame. The country’s greatest contribution to the world of music is the band called Aegis. There are thousands of reasons why, and here are some of them, ahead of Rak of Aegis, a rock musical featuring hit songs from the band that kicks off on 31 January at Peta Theater Center.
1. The voice.
The lead singers of the band, sisters Juliet and Mercy Sunot, are like our local version of Christina Aguilera. Or even Whitney Houston. Or Mariah Carey. Or Celine Dion. Their voices are so good they should be the next judges of The Voice of the Philippines. Oh how they blend! BTW. The guy members can sing, too. Yes, they have guy members.
2. Anyway, going back to reasons why they rak… one word: “Luha.”
3. Another word: “Halik.”
4. Four words: “Basang-basa sa Ulan” (or is that three words?)
5. They are so in demand around the world, they’ve been everywhere. Like Calgary
…and Vancouver
…and Los Angeles
…and Tokyo
…and Milan
6. They are hilarious. The girls have perfect comedic timing. And they sure can move, too.
7. Everyone wants to sing their songs, ideally with them.
