There’s something appealing about AlDub’s traditional approach to love in this world where couples are breaking up left and right. It’s what sets them apart from other “instant” love teams, and also partly what makes them so sensational in the first place.
The love story of Alden Richards and Maine Mendoza highlighted Filipino courtship and values, as seen through Lola Nidora’s lessons and guidelines about relationships. Kalyeserye promoted “waiting for the right time,” and that’s exactly what the characters did.
More than the year after the love team was formed, the nation watched as Alden and Maine got married in the series. As expected, their wedding was old school too.
Here are ten Aldub wedding details which made their union so traditionally Filipino:
1. Invitations are important. Filipino weddings are big because everyone is invited. Cutting down the guest list is often a huge, huge problem for couples. Good thing Alden and Maine didn’t have to do that. The entire nation was invited!
2. The bride is the star of the wedding. Everything she wears, touches, or holds has to be picture perfect, like this bouquet of flowers which Maine held when she walked down the aisle.
3. The wedding singer plays an important role. Filipinos love karaoke and music, after all.
4. The altar always has to look beautiful. There is no such thing as too many flowers.
5. The lil’ ones are forced to wear uncomfy formal clothes, but they still manage to smile and look cute.
6. The ninongs and ninangs always have to look and feel special. A wedding is an opportunity for them to display diamonds and pearls without appearing over-the-top.
7. The food has to be unlimited! Where is the lechon?!
8. In true Pinoy fashion, the guests will always try to cram themselves in one photo. And the photographer usually asks the group to move “closer” and post for a “wacky shot.”
9. The moment when the bride walks down the aisle has to be super magical.
10. ….but the most special part always has to when the priest says, “You may now kiss the bride.”
