COCONUTS HOT SPOT Mexican food joint El Chupacabra never fails to pack in crowds even on a weeknight. People scramble to get a table and are often made to wait to get seats during peak hours. Well, Poblacion peeps might not have to wait any longer as a yakitori place opened just next door. Instead of lingering around the street and hoping for a vacancy at the taqueria, customers are starting to favor a quick snack here.

Tambai began operations just last Dec 20,  but co-owner Melvin Viceral has been pining for the spot, which used to be a sari-sari store, for two years. It was only recently that manang finally gave in to his request to turn it into a snack shop. Asked why yakitori, the owner said that it was the easiest to execute and that no one else was selling it in the vicinity.

It currently has nine sticks on offer, varying from pork and vegetables to chicken gizzard and beef isaw. They are slathered with a special sauce while being cooked on the grill. If you want starch to go with your BBQ, it has onigiri and kimchi fried rice. There’s furikake French fries, tofuyaki and soft shell crab salad as well. As for beverages, it has canned cola, San Miguel beer and Yamazaki whiskey.
