Folks in the Taiwanese capital are going to be treated to some savory pork sisig and adobo that they can down along with cold San Miguel beers and mojitos courtesy of the Philippines’ Department of Tourism, which has launched a two-week food truck tour across the city of Taipei in a bid to attract more tourists to explore the shores of neighboring Philippines.
The trucks will dish out some 1,400 meals that will come complete with garlic rice, salted egg, a side of atchara (pickled papaya), and turon (sweet fried banana lumpia) to those who take a photo of the truck, upload it online, and like the Department of Tourism’s Facebook page, Focus Taiwan reported.
The stunt is meant to promote Filipino cuisine and entice more Taiwanese to visit the country. The Philippines opened its borders to fully vaccinated travelers in April.
Some 331,792 visitors from Taiwan arrived in the Philippines in 2019, according to the Taiwan Economic and Cultural Office in the Philippines, putting their citizens among the top 5 of countries that visit the Philippines the most.
Hazel Habito Javier, director of the Philippine Department of Tourism in Taiwan, said that Taiwanese tourists in the country spent a total of PHP13.36 billion (US$252.10 million) in 2019.
Meanwhile, Taiwan hosts some 150,000 overseas Filipino workers.
