We love it when people born before the Internet glady add hip phrases to their vocabulary.
Unlike “grizzled editor” Chin Wong who thinks words like “app,” “fail,” and “bot” are abused words, veteran lifestyle writer Sol Vanzi loves having a go at it.
Writing about The Kebab Factory in Bgy Bel-Air, Makati, she employed the phrase “awesome sauce” with deftness. Here, she talks about owner Sameera’s dedication to using only local produce:
“She insists on daily deliveries no matter what the weather, shifting to suppliers from Bukidnon, Cebu, and Davao when cold spells and typhoons ravage traditional salad suppliers in Baguio and Tagaytay.
“Awesome sauce! Almost all dishes are either stewed in gravies or are grilled and served with several sauces, making each bite an adventure. Each plate is served picture perfect, without no artsy-fartsy choreograpy. To achieve this, each sauce is made in the premises from scratch, following recipes handed down from Sameera’s mother-in-law.”
For those dining as a big group, Vanzi recommends the Kebab Platter: “generous portions of chicken, lamb, beef, and fish kebabs on a large mound of buttered rice, accented with vegetables and served with various sauces and one’s choice of breads. I took home all our leftovers, with extra breads and dips, and had several days of light healthy meals; just what the doctor ordered for hot summer days.”
The Kebab Factory is at Unit 130-A SM Jazz Residence, Nicanor Garcia cor Jupiter Sts, Bgy. Bel-Air, Makati; +63 2 5561246. Daily 10am-9pm.
