Filipino mallgoers are all too familiar with the french fries stall Potato Corner. It’s a go-to mid-afternoon snack that now has its own dedicated cult following. So much so that people have created an entire collection of memes featuring it.
Tapping into this, the brand recently launched its very own phone app game, which it promoted on its Twitter account yesterday.
Called Potato Corner Craze, it is pretty straightforward and quite similar to strategy video games like Diner Dash and Cake Mania. Players are meant to cook, season, and serve customers french fries in the flavor of their choice before time runs out.
The animation is simple but mimicks Potato Corner stalls — complete with those ubiquitous cylindrical containers the fries are mixed with the seasonings in.
The best part — players win free Giga fries (The second-biggest size worth PHP179/US$3.32) for every 179 coins they earn while playing the game. Yep, actual food to be eaten IRL. You know, “in real life.”
Players can redeem their Giga fries from Monday – Thursday until the end of the year from any of the participating outlets.
Potato Corner opened its first stall in the Philippines in 1992. Today, it is found all over the country and is in virtually every major mall. It has also since expanded to the United States, Indonesia, Panama, Australia, Thailand, Hong Kong, Cambodia, Singapore, Vietnam, and Kuwait.
