Pinoy pastry chef Marge Manzke shortlisted for a James Beard award

The James Beard Awards is known as the Oscars of the food world. It’s been handing out awards since 1990, making 2015 a landmark year. It is the 25th anniversary of the James Beard Awards.

The 2015 James Beard Awards list of semifinalists was just released and we spotted a Filipina in the list. Margarita “Marge” Manzke, of Republique restaurant in Los Angeles, was drafted in the Outstanding Pastry Chef category, along with the likes of Christina Tosi of Momofuku and Salvatore Martone of L’Atelier Joël Robuchon.

Marge is also behind Manila-based Wildflour Bakery + Café and The Farmacy soda fountain shop. And anybody who has ever sampled and tasted the assortment of pastries from those two establishments know that she truly is worthy of the prestigious mention.

The final list of nominees will be announced on March 24, and we’re all crossing our fingers for her win.
