In New York, mindblowing ube ice cream sandwich makes waves

This dessert item will make you want to scratch your head and think, “Why didn’t I think of that?”

An ice cream parlor in New York’s East Village is offering the Ube OddPocket, an ube ice cream sandwich, on its menu. Let not the straightforward name deceive you, the item is nowhere as simple as it sounds.

Conceived in collaboration with crazy chef Danny Bowien of Mission Chinese Food, the dessert is being offered by pastry chef Sam Mason at OddFellows.

According to Grubstreet.com, Mason starts by roasting and puréeing ube, before adding sweeteners and milk powder to turn it into a rich and nutty ice cream.

He then puts a scoop of of the ice cream in the center of a split brioche roll, seals it in, and then drizzles coconut dulce de leche and over the bun.

Topping the dessert are oat-honey-and-sesame granola flavored with shisho leaves-infused canola oil.

The dessert sells for USD8 and is available until stock runs out, according to Thrillist.com.
