COCONUTS HOT SPOT — Deep fried chicken and inihaw na manok (roasted chicken) will always be close to any Pinoy’s heart, but it’s nice to see how other ways of cooking chicken are now becoming more appreciated in the country.
Here’s a piece of good news: Modern Shanghai is adding Hainanese chicken to its menu. We can now enjoy their take on the succculent and painstakingly prepared dish for a pretty friendly price.
The organic Hainanese chicken, served with the de facto Hainanese rice cooked in chicken broth, is only PHP588. For those who want a bit more flavor in the meat, Modern Shanghai has a soy chicken variety for PHP548. Each order includes half a chicken and two servings or rice. All condiments, including the yummy ginger paste, are included.
Other favorites from the Modern Shanghai restaurant are the xiao long bao, birthday noodles and deep-fried pork ribs with spicy salt and pepper. To end your meal, get their mango sago.
