COCONUTS HOT SPOT—Quezon City is home to over 5,000+ restaurants and small eateries and it seems like a new one pops up every single day. Marcus is one of the newest restobars along Congressional Avenue. My brother and I passed by this place last week and the cool ambiance just drew us in.
THE LOOK
The signage looks handwritten and there are three hashtags (#tacos, #burgers and #ribs) right underneath it. From outside, Marcus looks like a regular bar, but once you step inside it feels more like a sports bar: on one wall is a huge mural of Manny Pacquiao, and there’s a flatscreen that shows videos about cycling and mountain biking.
Marcus can seat about 25 guests indoors and 10 more outdoors. It uses warm white lighting, modern-casual styling and cement-finish as slight rustic accents. There are six parking slots outside. Be early though, as it get filled fast as the night progresses.
THE GRUB
We tried the Nacho Melt and a couple of German beers and if that is an indication of how the rest of the menu goes, then I can say that Marcus serves good food.
The Nacho Melt (P180) is good for two. It uses crisp white nacho chips that is generously smothered with real beef chunks, melted cheese and coriander. The beef is tender and packed with beefy goodness. The coriander adds fresh aroma and a slight Mexican taste. This is one of their best-sellers. It actually looks and tastes very similar to Silantro’s (Kapitolyo) beef nachos.
Marcus offers German beers that include Paulaner, Stella Artois, Hoegaarden, Super Bock among others. They also serve Blue Moon, Corona and San Miguel Pale Pilsen, Light, Cerveza Negra and Premium All-Malt.
The ribs looked very appetizing and we will definitely try it on our next visit. The burgers also looked fantastic. If you love good food, beer and sports, tag this restobar under your wishlist.
