If you had PHP7 million (US$140,000) what would you buy?

On New Year’s Eve, someone thought it would be a good idea to buy a bottle of champagne worth that much at Cove Manila, a new indoor beach club that opened late last year.

The club didn’t identify the person who bought it, but posted a video yesterday announcing the purchase.

“We just sold the first 7 million peso Armand de Brignac Midas in the Philippines! Another night in history was made when the prestigious 30-liter bottle was purchased right as we were counting down to 2018!” Cove wrote in its caption. “The only one of its kind in the country sold first at Cove Manila! Cheers to festive and grand celebrations, we can’t wait to pop more bottles with all of you this year.”

The video has over 165,000 views as of posting time.

According to Wine Enthusiast Magazine, American billionaire and Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban once spent US$110,000 (PHP5.5 million) on a bottle of Armand de Brignac, a relative bargain compared to the money shelled out this weekend.

The super expensive drink became available at Cove Manila last December through a partnership with Armand de Brignac. According to a GMA News story, the drink’s price is due to the “meticulous winemaking process.”

The same report said, “only 18 people touch a bottle – from the pressing of the fruit to the champagne’s departure from France, to the finished each bottle receives.”

“We like to take time and nurture our champagne,” Sebastien Besson, CEO of Armand de Brignac, was quoted in GMA News when he visited the nightclub last month. “We have a long-term generational objective in everything we do.”
