Editors note: This article has been updated to reflect last-minute changes made by Village Tavern.

With reasonably-priced cocktails and an interesting menu to match, the Village Tavern in BGC is the perfect spot for after-work socials and fun dinners with friends.

The US-based restaurant known for casual dining is celebrating its fifth birthday in the Philippines — and its top chefs Grace Viado and Josh Boutwood are surprising diners with yummy additions to VT’s extensive menu.

Chef Grace and chef Josh worked together in helping build a steady base of diners for The Village Tavern in the Philippines. They’re constantly adding new dishes while staying true to the image of the brand. Village Tavern changes its menu twice a year to keep things interesting.

“The menu is very varied. It’s not just pure American flavor. There are Asian and European flavors in there. Your grandmother will find something, your kids will find something, your evil twin will find something,” explained chef Josh.

So, what are the new items?

In the Village Tavern’s media preview, Coconuts Mania got to try shrimp and grits made by chef Grace herself.

Grits are difficult to find in the Philippines, and even in certain places in the US, they are known to be quite pricey. Well, Chef Grace worked her magic and made the southern staple available right here. Grits are milled corn, often served like cereal. VT’s version is served with Grurye, mushrooms, bacon, green onions and shrimps. It was very rich, buttery and comforting.

Here are the other new items you may enjoy.

Looking for something light and refreshing? Have a bowl of this colorful kani-mango salad.

Seafood lovers will enjoy this seafood pasta with a generous serving of clams, mussels, and shrimp.

If you want something heavier, try VT’s cheddar and mushroom burger. It’s flame-grilled wagyu patty, sautéed mushrooms, tomatoes, pickles, and onions topped with American cheddar cheese with branston pickles. Served with French fries.

Dining with a group? VT also offers platters good for sharing.

There’s the High street platter (3pcs porchetta, Monterey chicken, 2 pcs crispy fish tacos served with roasted potatoes topped with cheese sauce)

And the Main street platter (2 pcs Texan pork chops, classic fried chicken, 3pcs wrapped kani salad. Served with roasted potatoes topped with cheese sauce.)
