Rage is what many Filipinos are feeling whenever the controversial multi-million Manila Bay rehabilitation is brought up, but for a small bakeshop in Cavite province, the topic became the source of inspiration for a confection that has just become netizens’ favorite.

The Weekend Pâtisserie yesterday showcased its Manila Bay-inspired two-tier cake, which comes with its own fake “dolomite white sand” and Cat excavator.
It also took a jab at the people responsible for the much-maligned project, with its icing on top saying, “It really hurtz. That’s [worth] PHP389M ghorl?”
Coconuts Manila chatted on Facebook Messenger with the anonymous owner of the bakery, and she said the cake was created “just for fun.”

“It was our way to express our frustrations with what’s happening right now,” she said.
The cake is cookies-and-cream flavored and comes with buttercream icing, topped with crushed vanilla cookies and Oreo “to imitate the ‘sand’ in Manila Bay.” Each cake costs PHP850 (US$17.50).
“It took an hour to bake the cake. Then I had to wait to have it completely cooled before frosting it. The whole process took about half a day,” she said.
The owner, a former English tutor, admitted that while a lot of people found the cake amusing, it attracted its fair share of critics as well.
“We’ve had some negative feedback from some people who couldn’t take the post lightly,” she said.
