You’ve probably heard that buko juice or coconut water is a great source of electrolytes—and the Department of Science and Technology wants to make it easier for you rehydrate with the launch of Bukolyte, a powdered coconut juice drink loaded with nutrients and minerals.
Bukolyte is said to be a healthier, preservative-free alternative to commercially available fruit juices. The DOST said that the product can treat dehydration caused by excessive vomiting and diarrhea, heavy sweating from heat and exercise, as well as hangovers—perfect after all that holiday drinking.
“It is loaded with nutrients and minerals and contains four electrolytes, namely potassium, sodium, calcium, and magnesium that are known to support rapid hydration. It is particularly designed for modern on-the-go hydration that allows consumers to drink coconut water, anytime and anywhere,” the DOST said.
The Food Processing Innovation Center in Davao created Bukolyte using a spray-drying technology that converts liquid products into powder while preserving its nutrients.
