Wall of ‘hugots’ at Recovery Food in Quezon City

A hugot line is poetry for Pinoy millenials.

It stems from a piercing need to share a deep emotion in a short but dramatic statement, sometimes subconciously. No flowery lines, no metaphors. Just short, powerful declarations that capture a painful experience, usually involving a heartbreak.

The ingredients? Impeccabe timing, quick wit, a bit of bitterness and a bottomless well of painful experiences from within.

Yes, drama, overreaction and hyperboles are required.

What’s a good way to deliver a powerful hugot line if you can’t say it to someone’s face? Write it on a hugot wall after eating a comforting plate of protein and carbs.

Eat, recover…. then move on (hopefully).

Recovery Food at UP Town Center in Quezon City is all about helping you recover (from a heartbreak? from a job loss? from a crush who didn’t like your post? from anything!).

The restaurant has a wide range of breakfast food options. Mostly, the dishes are what you would find in 24/7 Filipino eateries. We suggest a nice bowl of arroz caldo (PHP175) or a plate of Amadobo adobo rice (PHP180), though a crowd favorite is the tapa de morning (PHP180), Recovery Food’s version of tapsilog.

After finishing your meal, you can write your hugot line on their hugot wall. If you’re not yet ready to come up with your own words, just read what others have posted. Find something relatable. Find something witty. It is a treasure trove of warnings and wisdom earned from painful experiences.

Here are some of the best ones we saw.
