Granny’s still got it: Grand Mommy’s Kitchen at Il Terrazo

COCONUTS HOT SPOT — When reviewing restaurants, it’s a common practice to comment on the interior as well because even when the food offerings are great, if the ambiance is uninviting, the overall dining experience can’t merit a two-thumbs-up in my book.

Having a pleasant and attractive atmosphere—courtesy of its well-lit, country-style interior with Instagram-worthy wooden elements and pretty décors—is why Grand Momma’s Kitchen easily got my nod of approval.

Whenever I visit Il Terrazzo in Tomas Morato, I always get drawn to this cute little restaurant but end up eating in either Banapple or Omakase, which are also in the same building.

Sometimes I’m so hungry that I don’t want to try a new, unheard-of resto and run the risk of being dissatisfied. When I finally checked out this home-style American comfort food place on one of my “I am starving” moments, thankfully, I wasn’t disappointed—except that they didn’t have bacon at the time, so we weren’t able to try their intriguing Breakfast Pizza (P230). Other
than that, I was happy with the resto’s chic laid-back mood, our orders, and the service.

As I love salmon, I ordered the Pan Seared Salmon Fillet (P280) without thinking twice and loved its crunchy coating; I also liked that it came with a sour cream dip, which, even if it’s not a typical match, worked well.

My boyfriend got the Smoked Baby Back Ribs (P255), whose meat, he says, may not fall off the bone but doesn’t disappoint in terms of taste.

The following day, I had an impromptu lunch date with my girl friends and suggested we dine in Grand Momma’s Kitchen. This time, I ordered the Chicken Cordon Bleu (P255); the chicken was good especially with the creamy mushroom sauce, but the mashed potatos were bland.

On the two consecutive occasions I ate here, I noticed that their service was consistently good and the staffers are polite.

I’ll definitely come back because I’ve yet to try their other mouthwatering offerings: Pancake Stack (P140), Crab Fat and Roasted Garlic Linguine (P215), Classic Cheeseburger (P210), and Double Chocolate Cake (P125).

Whoever Grand Momma is, I want to meet her and stay in her kitchen, as I dare say, “Granny’s still got it.”

Grand Momma’s Kitchen is at G/F Il Terrazzo at 305 Tomas Morato Ave. cor. Scout Madriñan St., Quezon City
