This golden donut from a Pinoy restaurant in New York is driving everybody hungry

It’s a donut filled with ube, frosted with champagne and topped with 24 karat gold. Of course it’s gonna viral.

The Golden Cristal Ube Donut is selling in New York for USD$100 a pop.

Who do we thank for this edible bling? Bjorn Dela Cruz, the founder and head chef of the Manila Social Club, his family-run Filipino-French-American restaurant that opened in April 2015 in the hipster neighborhood of Williamsburg in Brooklyn, New York.

The Golden Cristal Ube Donut is a product of the restaurant’s weekly doughnut program. It was Manila Social Club’s New Year’s offering.

At an earlier doughnut event, Dela Cruz unveiled a doughnut dusted with gold. It sparked the idea.

“The reason that gold lead and Cristal were added was because I love all different champagnes,” Dela Cruz explains to food website First We Feast.

He thought Cristal had “really great honey notes which goes great with ube.”

A week later, the demand — and it’s viral status — is still going strong.

Dela Cruz told Buzzfeed that “he plans to keep selling them as long as people want them.

He does want people to know there’s more to Manila Social Club that the golden donut. And it’s true. We mean, the mango souffle pancakes! Check out a few pieces of food porn from their Instagram account below:
