Food news: White truffles at Lusso and Grace Park

It’s a good year for white truffles. Mother Earth let it rain in Italy’s truffle-producing spots — like Umbria, Tuscany and Piedmont — then turned on the heat, making it ideal for the fungus to grow in numbers. Here in Manila, we used our nose to follow the distinct earthy aroma of those elusive mushrooms and it’s led us to Lusso (G/F Greenbelt 5, Ayala Center, Makati; +63 2 7465893) and Grace Park (G/F One Rockwell, Rockwell Drive, Rockwell Center, Makati; +63 2 843 7275).

At Lusso, you can choose from a few items on the menu and add PHP350+ to top it with white truffle shavings. Example: Lobster roll costs PHP525+ but add PHP350+ to get a gram of white truffles on top. Hot tip: As of Nov 11, there’s only 82 grams of white truffles available at Lusso.

At Grace Park, you can get a tasting of pasta sautéed in butter with a gram of white truffles (PHP650++), a whole portion of fresh fetuccini with cream, organic egg and one gram of white truffles (PHP900++), a two-egg sunny side up with sourdough bread (PHP495++) or if you want to splurge, grilled rib eye with two grams of fresh truffles (PHP2,200++). Hot tip: As of Nov 11, there’s only 90 grams of white truffles left at Grace Park.
