Freaky feast: Crocodile lechon from Coral Farms

We can think of at least one joke involving crocodiles—but this post is about real crocodiles, not the ones that hold office in Batasang Pambansa.

On Coconuts TV’s Freaky Feast Episode 7, our multimedia director Alexander Hotz steps in front of the camera to try a trio of crocodile dishes, including Crocodile Lechon, a special twist on the Filipino dish traditionally made with pig.

The crocodiles are bred by Coral Agri-Venture Farm in Morong, Rizal, and the ones they use for lechon average eight kilos; for pick-up only, with three days’ advanced notice. The crocodile burger (PHP170) and sisig rice meal (PHP195) are both available for dine-in at Nueve Cafe.

That is damn good,” says Hotz about the crocodile lechon. “I will write home to my mother about how good this was. Zesty, tangy, very tender, smokey, just all the qualities you look for in good meat.”

Nueve Café, G/F Wilcon Builders’ Depot Building,  90 E Rodriguez Jr Ave, Libis, Quezon City; +63 2 6348387 loc 1708. Daily 9am-7:30pm. To order crocodile lechon, +63 2 634 8387 local 1636 look for Dan.
