Foodie alert: English celebrity chef Heston Blumenthal, whose Fat Duck and Dinner in the United Kingdom has consistently ranked on the top restaurants of the world lists, had lunch at Rambla yesterday.
Rambla is a fairly new hip Spanish Mediterranean restaurant located near the residential towers of Rockwell and is run by the same gang of young Spanish expats that own Las Flores, also located in the same barangay.
According to our well-fed spy: “He was seated on table number 5 and this is what he ordered: Air Baguette with Iberian Ham & Gazpacho, Spherical Olives, Veal Cheeks Won Ton, and some cold cuts. For his mains, he got Black Paella with Salmon Loin Tataki and the Slow Crispy Suckling Pig. For desserts: Xuxo and Churros.”
After his meal, the bespectacled Blumenthal, 47, looked for the chef in charge, Spanish Pepe Lopez, and congratulated him.
“He said he was so happy and loved the food. He is in Manila to visit friends, and was leaving for Australia for a business trip,” says our spy. Blumenthal has been reported to be opening Dinner by Heston at the Crown Melbourne Resort in Australia.
FYI: Coconuts Manila hung out with Rambla’s chef Pepe Lopez a few weeks before Heston Blumenthal’s visit. Check out our Instakitchen video of him here.
