Flash floods due to strong winds and rains from the tropical storm Maring ravaged areas in North Luzon, destroying crops and vehicles in the region’s farming communities.
Over 400 sacks of corn crops that were left to dry were swept away in the unexpected flood in the town of Baggao in Cagayan. A video posted to social media shows farmers desperately trying to retrieve the harvest that sunk in the murky waters.
Farmfolk managed to save only 20 sacks, according to a post by Bobby Dumayag Jr.
Pagasa also declared Cagayan under tropical cyclone wind signal no.2, which forced some 200 individuals to evacuate and caused power outages throughout the province.
Meanwhile, flash floods also wreaked havoc in the farming community of Buyacaoan in Buguias, Benguet, according to Rural Rising, a social enterprise that supports distressed farmers. A photo posted on social media shows a farmer-owned Tamaraw FX vehicle completely submerged in the flooding.
The potato harvest in Buyacaoan is also at risk of damage, according to the group.
