5 ways to get your salted egg fix in Metro Manila

Salted egg is in the running for being the year’s biggest food trend. The cooler cousin of everyone’s favorite breakfast has made an appearance on the most unexpected food items. Good to see the F&B indutry milking the fad — more choices for us!

In case you need your salted egg fix, here are our faves and where to get ‘em. 

 

1. Salted egg chicken skin from Backyard Kitchen + Brew (PHP225)

This is more addictive that the typpical salted egg potato chips. Obviosly, it’s more sinful, too. For your own safety, try not to devour a whole serving by yourself. If you are looking for something that will make you feel less guilty, go for the salted egg flatbread (PHP295), which is perfect with a glass of margarita for an afternoon of chikka. 2. Salted egg fries from Carnivale (PHP230)

Chef Mike Zaguire gave fastfood faves an upgrade at Carnivale at S Maison, fries included. The salted egg fries are doubled-fried and seasoned with salted egg powder and other condiments. 3. Salted egg buns from Din Tai Fung (PHP85/ two pieces)

Perhaps, this is where it all started? We went crazy for the salty-sweet combination of the golden salted egg custard oozing out of hot, fluffy buns. Best eaten after a filling meal. SM Megamall Building B, St Francis, Ortigas Center, Mandaluyong; +63 2 997 1935. Daily, 10am-10pm

 

4. Salted egg lava croissant from Jipan (PHP125)

5. Salted egg potato chips from Sunny Manille

This year alone there are probably at least fifteen new entrepreneurs who started selling salted egg potato chips. It has gained unbelievable popularity, and for a good reason. But yes, not all salted chips are created equal. So far, Sunny Manille tops our list. Quite pricey for a snack, but its really worth all the hype. Visit their Facebook page for more details.
