‘Suspended coffee’, the practice of buying coffee for strangers who can’t afford a cup, has reached Manila, with Blacksoup Cafe + Artspace in Sikatuna Village, Quezon City testing out the system through April.
According to the Blacksoup Facebook page, guests can buy coffee and sandwiches for strangers starting Easter Sunday, March 31st. The cafe will keep a stub for the suspended coffee and sandwiches for someone to claim within the day. Guests who claim the stubs will be asked to sign tracking papers, which will be posted on the page.
“After two days and there are unclaimed stubs, blacksoup will go around in a bicycle to give out unclaimed coffee and sandwiches to street people/families,” the cafe said.
Suspended coffee is reportedly an old Italian tradition that has since been picked up by more than 150 coffee shops in Bulgaria. The concept has been making waves on social media as “a great new way to pay it forward.”
This website is meanwhile holding its breath for an even greater way of paying it forward: Suspended beer.
