Food shot: Banapple’s Maple Pecan and Candied Bacon Cheesecake is a must-try

Bacon in desserts is nothing new but somehow, it still manages to elicit an “hmmm” kind of reaction.

Take Banapple’s Maple Pecan and Candied Bacon Cheesecake, for example, which sounds like some sort of experiment made by someone who can’t tell the difference between whipped cream and mayonnaise.

This intriguing-sounding cheesecake has a rich and nutty cheesecake layer that is both sweet and savory at the same time. On top of it is a layer of whipped cream, which , thankfully, doesn’t taste like your usual whipped/all-purpose cream. It’s sweet and a little stiffer, so it doesn’t come off as just an extra layer to make the cake appear bigger or taller.

The Graham crackers base is nothing spectacular. The bottom, part is pretty thin but the back part is really thick. Don’t think it’s just an extender, though, because it blends well with the cheesecake and/or the cream, plus it’s just the right amount.

The best part of this sweet treat is the sprinkling of maple pecans and candied bacon. Only a few pieces of pecans can be found so you’re really grateful when you find one. The bacon pieces are a little too soft, which can turn some people off. On the other hand, those crunchy bits (not sure if they’re bacon bits or just hard candy) are heavensent. Wish they had more of those.

Available for P120 a slice and P1,180 for a whole cheesecake, this not-your-usual cheesecake variant is interesting enough but not too exotic – definitely a must-try.
